WelcomeSt. Thomas' Handshake to Kware was born out of a relationship between residents of Fair Oak, Hampshire UK and Benn Mugisha, a Ugandan born English trained nurse. They formed a partnership and along with his family and friends, Benn has formed a self-help project committed to the vision of providing medical and educational services for the Kware population. There are some 500,000 people living in the Kware Slums in the South Eastern limits of Nairobi, Kenya. 75% of their population are children. They are without the simple luxuries we all take for granted, such as clean running water, regular meals, education and health care. The sight of children playing in streets running with sewage is a sight never forgotten. This charity has been established to provide education and health care for the people of the Kware Slums. Since the start of the project in 1996, two schools and a small clinic, (recently upgraded to a Health Centre), have been established and continue to be supported by the charity. Two plots of land have now been purchased to build a new school which will cater for 1000 pupils and a new 200 bed Hospital. St Thomas Handshake to Kware is a Registered Charity in the U.K. (no: 1086514). In Kenya, the project is classified as a Self Help Project titled 'St Thomas' handshake to the Kware Slums'. The charity is in need of your help. If you can contribute in any way please contact us. |
